TO: LAW SCHOOLS - THE FEDERAL DEATH PENALTY

Over the years the death penalty has been debated by those who support and oppose it. The debate continues as more and more innocent men and women have their sentences overturned because of the advances in science and the use of DNA tests that prove innocence. Unfortunately most Capital Cases do not involve evidence where DNA testing is an issue. DNA evidence is available only in a small percentage of the cases tried. Other equally important flaws in capital cases are being over-looked by those on all sides. These issues actually effect far more capital defendants than the more glamorous cases involving DNA,

Some of the overlooked issues include the following: Ineffective Assistance of Counsel; Prosecutorial Misconduct; Withholding Exculpatory Evidence from the Defense; The Unavailability of Adequate Funding to compensate attorneys, investigators, expert witnesses representing indigent defendants in capital cases.

These issues receive very little publicity or at ten t ion by the general public even though they lead to the convictions of innocent people across this country. Until these issues are addressed there will continue to be innocent people convicted and no doubt  executed.

We are contacting you to seek your assistance in helping to re-solve these problems. We have been sentenced to death and each of us have our cases on appeal. Our plea for assistance is not jus t for our-selves but for all of those on death rows. With the assistance of you professionals in the legal field including professors, law students attorneys and others willing to help attorneys in capital cases things can change.

Some of that assistance is needed by men under a federally imposed sentence of death and currently housed here on the Federal Death Row Unit at the United States Penitentiary in Terre Haute , Indiana . We implore each of you to seriously consider providing assistance in what ever way possible.
