Christopher André Vialva

My name is Christopher André Vialva. I am a 6’0”, 207 lbs. Black male. I was born may 10th, 1980 in Texas where I was raised all but 2½ years of my life in the free world. I have been incarcerated since 1999. I like movies and music. I am a newly coverted Muslim trying to learn more about the Islamic faith. This particular task has become fairly difficult due to the absence of Muslim Chaplins in this prison and my inability to find a spiritual advisor. Due to the media’s polarization of terrorism, Islam has become synonymous with terror. That along with the fact that I am a condemned man has made people reluctant to help me on my quest for salvation through islam.

What I am seeking?

To inspire is to influence, move, or guide. There are many ways to inspire the many people in this world. The curious nature in us all compels us to evaluate other reasons for the courses of action they were inspired to take, inevitably resulting in our own inspiration. As a child our favorite word is “why.” The “why” could arguably be the most important part of any equation. The answer to why is the incentive; the reward or penalty. “What”, “when”, and “where” are mechanical. The “why” is spiritual. The wisdom is in the “why.” Here is a question you are probably asking yourself right now, ”Why should I write this condemned man?” There are many possible answers to that question, but only you know yours. Here is a “why” I can answer, “Why” do I want someone to correspond with? Well, due to my incarceration I have lived all my adult years behind bars. During these years many things have been made manifest. One thing is that the many people I knew as friends in the free world cannot operate in the friend capacity without my physical pressence. Now I am disconnected from the world and can’t find inspiration. The answer to this particular “why” is I would like to be inspired; inspired to hope. If you choose to write please understand you are making a commitment; if not you are wasting both of our time and that is not a luxury I have.  If you make this commitment, when someone asks me “What keeps you going, or what gives you hope? I will say; “your name here keeps me going and gives me hope.” I would like to know what inspires you.
