Michael Flinner

Shalom,

My name is Michael Flinner. I’m a widowed Jewish man in my late 30’s, writing in the grip of emotion from the confines of death row here at San Quentin State Prison in Northern California.

The purpose of this missive is to semi-formally introduce myself to you and yours, with the distinct hope that despite my current circumstance and tribulation, we might open a new positive and productive line of dialogue. God knows that I could sure use some moral support and friendship.

Physically chained, emotionally tortured, and spiritually numb, I reach deep into the Globe, assembling a fluid network of individuals to share with for years to come while I fight for my life – what’s left of it. Human beings are made for many things but loneliness isn’t one of them.

All too often, risks worth taking are limited only by the imagination. They say, “If your ship doesn’t come in – swim out to it.” While in search of a life jacket, I test the preservation of my will, adrift in a sea full of bloodthirsty sharks.

Made up of my past and walking in the power of truth and forgiveness, this plight did not come without a cause.

During my recovery here, condemned to death, I work diligently to become vocal and visible in the arduous, ongoing struggle for abolition, simply fanning the flames so the fire within me doesn’t burn out.

Brilliant people often have the most persuasive demons but I’m a lonely man, held captive by my lifelong successes and failures.

Somehow in all of the madness, I managed to single-handedly enable what were once my private little miracles to become memories.

Fallen from grace, unable to cry on the outside, and lost in a solid concrete ghost town, my heart yearns to sew some seeds of hope with those who’d appreciate an honest, respectful friendship, one which will never toy with your heads, or ego’s.

Additionally, I constantly find myself exhausted with the search for marketing assistance to help expose my website to the globe, individuals, and organizations who oppose capital punishment, and to those who might find themselves otherwise undecided.

Faced with an opportunity to regain my freedom, I did not kill anyone. I was convicted without due process or the ability to confront and cross-examine my accuser, convicted on third party hearsay testimony and no direct evidence.

I know that one person’s pain is nothing when compared to the suffering of all. Further, given the dire nature of the scenario – time is of the essence. Faith is the illuminating substance of things to be hoped for. I want my life back.

Any questions you may have about my life and this plight onto death row, or how you might best assist me, can be directed to my family at michaelflinner@msn.com. We need all the help we can muster.

Write soon and ask what you wish. Postage permitting, I will answer all. Stamps, greeting cards, stationary, and nominal monetary assistance are always welcomed and certainly appreciated. No contribution to my continued existence goes unnoticed.

Feel free to visit my website (www.michaelflinner.org) and acquaint yourself with a clear picture of who I am, you’ll see photo’s, read articles I’ve written, and have an opportunity to exercise your right to become informed through the various forms of media you’ll find.

Thank you for your time and consideration in these desperate of days. I look forward to hearing from you and yours in the near future.

In the palm of his hand,

B’Shalom,

Michael Flinner
