Robert Pruett

My name is Robert and I'm writing this in hopes of finding someone out there who would be interested in writing with me. I have an affinity for writing and I definitely enjoy socializing. Living here on Texas ' Death Row can became very boring and lonely; writing with someone from the outside can break the monotony of this place. I welcome all correspondence and I promise to answer all letters. Please allow me to give you an idea of who I am.

I'm 24 years old and I've been on Death Row for just over two years; although, I've been incarcerated since I was 15 years old. I was raised in a poor environment by a single mother, ( My father was sent to prison when I was born and he didn't come back into the picture until I was close to 7), who struggled to provide for my siblings and me. I began using drugs at a very early age and before I was a teen, I turned to crime. It was as if criminality was taught to the youth in the neighborhoods I grew up in. I reflect back over these early years and I realize most of my mistakes. I behaved irresponsibly and without consideration for others. All that mattered were the drugs and the fast life. There is no doubt that I've made countless bad choices throughout the course of my life and I'm not proud of any of them.

In many ways coming to prison was a blessing for me. I believe that I began to mature after my incarceration. Something about sitting in a cold cell, realizing that I'd been a burden on many and knowing that a change was in order, helped me to take the necessary steps to better myself. I understood that the way I was living was destructive to myself and others and I wasn't happy with the person I was, so I made a concerted effert to change.

I began reading and educating myself in every way imaginable. I love to learn and live always been an inquisitive person. In fact, I think that is my curse! To have this insatiable desire to understand and know everything!  : -) I enjoy history of every kind and the same goes for science. In trying to understand myself  I've taken a long look at psychology and related behavioral sciences and quite a bit. Philosophy is another one of my favorite subjects and I read everything. I can get my hands on regarding it. I also enjoy reading novels of every sort, but I mostly stick to non-fiction.

Generally I’m - high-spirited and try to make the best of life. I consider myself predominantly an optimist, or a “ glass half full ” type, if you want. I have no solid spiritual beliefs, but I'm convinced that there's SOMETHING and I diligently search for answers to lifes biggest questions. I' ve studied qui te a few religions, but I guess you could say I haven't bad an epiphany yet.

I'm a big music and sports fan as weIl. I get into all styles of rock. Country music seems to do it for me as weIl. When I was free I played the guitar and I learned by playing a lot of old country and 80's / 90's rock. I love music and I do believe that it is food for the soul....    As far as sports go, I like to keep up with what I refer to as the "Big Three” : Football, basketball, and baseball.

I'd like to write someone with whom I can find some common ground. I prefer to hold intellectual conversations, but small talk is welcomed. Another thing about me is that I believe I have taught myself morals and values. I try my best to fellow a certain set of codes and principles that include honesty, respect, loyalty and the like. If you think you share some of these traits, please drop me a line.... I look. forward to it . Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Robert Pruett
