Chronicled Journal by Vaughn Ross

This
will be my chronicled Journal of my journey of life here on death row.
On death row when you get a date set for your execution you are placed
on Deathwatch. Which is a more closer observation of your person to
protect you from harming yourself or committing suicide before the state
of
Texas
can kill you. I want to expand this vigiled observation beyond the
designation of a date for the extermination of human life to cover the
whole process of arriving to death row and the removal from it.
Will it be you who watch me throughout this journey of mine?
Deathwatch
The eye of death is watching me.
It has me in its sight.
Its focus is set on me.
My every move is studied and watched.
I feel its presence all around,
Stalking me.
Waiting to fulfil its mission.
Not stopping nor happy until I am finished.
Death watches me both day and night.
Keeping vigil,
Its watchful eye guards me.
In its false sense of protection,
So that no one else steals its glory.
Look, can you see the eye of death,
As it watches me.
Is it your eyes through which,
Death is watching in me?
When It Comes To Us
The state is so brutal
Resistance is futile
When accused you lose
Stand trial if you chose
The war is lost
Before the battle is even fought
Persecution in the name of justice
It's really just blood lust
When it comes to us
The poor and huddled masses
Outcasts among the classes
Always placed last
In a society not designed for me
Nor my family tree
When it comes to us
You should have taken the plea
The judge decreed
Now bow down to your knees
Your stature is no higher than a flea
In the eyes of those that judges
When it comes to us
An eye for an eye
The blind leading the blind
Is what I see
When it comes to us
Will Today Be The Day
Will today be the day
That I say goodbye to this cruel and crazy world
As if I didn't know
It was told to me a long time ago
My whole trial was marred
Conceived out of fraud
The prosecutor presented his theory
With no interjections
My attorney rarely raised an objection
The jury deliberated the case
and made a decision in a haste
Then the bailiff delivered the verdict
The judge read guilty as charged
As tears rolled down my sister's face
I love you is what she said
I hear by sentence you to death the judge said
By lethal injection to be carried out
On some future date
This Day is My Day
Yes indeed
Chosen for my execution
With no hope of a stay
Today will be the Day
That I leave this cold hard place
Today will be that Day
